Letter to Old and New Campers

Hey, guys! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m George Simeon, the Assistant Director at Camp Skylemar.

Way back before you were born, I was a 10 year old kid, trying to figure out summer plans. Lucky for me, I found Camp Skylemar. I still remember that first day, and how nervous I was. Would I make friends? Were the counselors nice? Was the food good? But in no time I made tons of friends, learned that the counselors were the greatest, and couldn’t wait till the next meal.

Each summer was better than the next. I kept coming back for years as a camper and then a counselor. Now, twenty years later, I’m one of the people in charge of making sure you have an amazing summer. I want to make Skylemar as great for you as it was for me.

Been to Skylemar? Then you know me well and what I do. From making sure that the counselors are phenomenal, to planning amazing activities, to just being somebody to hang out with.

Thinking about coming for the first time? Let me tell you about Skylemar, the greatest place in the world.

Skylemar is gorgeous. Mountain views, an amazing lake, beautifully maintained facilities. But the people are the most important part - the kids and the counselors. Everyone will know you and you’ll know them. You’ll make more friends than you ever thought possible. Even today, my best friends are the people I met at Skylemar.

Each cabin has 5-7 kids and a couple of counselors. There are several cabins in each age group. Directors Arleen and Shep spend lots of time figuring out the groupings. They do everything possible to see that you’re with a fantastic group of guys and counselors.

Every day is a brand new adventure. After morning sports show, its breakfast and we see the day’s schedule. There are 7 activity periods. You get to choose some of the activities, and others you go to as a group. Click here for a sample schedule. Each day is unique.

Once in a while, it rains. But that’s no problem, because The Lodge is filled with ping pong, pool, fooze ball and tons of indoor games. There’s a gym and Rec Hall, for game shows, craft projects, movies and surprises. We’re always coming up with new ideas.

Evening activities are a blast! There are campfires, plays, carnivals, casino night, socials, and lots of special Skylemar traditions. At the end of the night, it’s like a slumber party. Not only are your good friends in the room, but your counselor is too. You’ll never feel alone at Skylemar.

Speaking of counselors, Skylemar has the best. Some used to be campers, many have been on staff before, and others are new. Each has at least one specialty, and nearly all play on a varsity college team. Most importantly, they come to Skylemar because they want to be the teacher, coach and adult friend that you’ll remember the rest of your life. If you’re new to a sport, they’ll patiently teach the basics. If you already know the game, you’ll have lots of good competition and personal coaching. Through ups and downs, Skylemar counselors are there by your side.

Whether it’s your first summer or your fifth, the next season at Skylemar will be terrific. Can’t wait to see you there!

Your friend,
George
